Dounreay debate

The New Labour government came under strong critisism in a debate in parliament on 8th June.

The local MP for Caithness, Robert Maclennan described their handling of the issue as "cackhanded". Tory spokesman John Redwood said "this is not the usual government U turn but government in a permanent spin".

The Scottish National Party has played a leading role in highlighting the problems at the nuclear plant. Last week there was a major confrontation at Westminster between Tony Blair and Alex Salmond over Dounreay.
